We farm year-round on 6 acres and have two 30x96 high tunnels, a 34x144  and several 100ft caterpillar tunnels. We are going into our eleventh year of production.  We enjoy growing most everything and continue to enlarge our winter growing efforts.

Desired skill set:
• Two to three years, full-time vegetable production; winter growing a plus.
• Strong teamwork and communication skills, positive attitude, sense of humor, patience and an ability to switch gears. Spanish is a plus.
• Keen observational skills, discipline to finish tasks to the fullest level of quality while understanding how to prioritize.
• Valid driver’s license.
• Excellent health and physical stamina.

Candidate will be expected to:
• Prep Tunnels/Fields for planting via BCS or Kubota tractor.
• Work with myself to implement seasonal crop plans, including seeding, transplanting and perennial production.
• Lead a harvest team by teaching/guiding and reviewing on-going quality standards.
• Complete and direct packing for different market channels including on-line orders, wholesale deliveries and market harvests.
• Keep production records and notes on seeding, planting and harvests. Note any areas or systems that need improvements.
• Lead crew members in production tasks such as weeding, tunnel construction, greenhouse seeding and plant protection. You will be expected to set the pace, monitor and adjust yourself and crew throughout the completion of field tasks.
• Set up tools/systems ahead of the team to ready for the next anticipated task.
• Set-up displays at market and sell at local farmers’ market.
• Set-up field irrigation.

Compensation & Interview Requirements:
Compensation is based on experience, range is $13-$17/hour. This is flexible based on experience, and is a wide range because we can teach the right person with less experience. Year one will include one week paid vacation, off-season, and 3 paid sick days. Expected weekly hours of work will range seasonally from 55 hours/week at the height of the season to 25 hours/week in the winter with flexibility in January and February. Market work on Saturdays is available with additional paid premiums. We are a very successful farm and have been able to give bonuses consistently throughout our years in production. If the farm does well, so do you. We do not have on-farm housing but can assist you in finding affordable housing in the area.

A cover letter, resume, and three farm references can be sent to Sue Decker at sue@bluestarfarmny.com. We want to know your farm experiences, and why you would like to work at Blue Star Farm.  A phone interview and in-person interview will be required, along with a possible paid work day. Feel free to call me, Sue Decker, to discuss the details. My home phone is 518-610-8034 and cell is 917-842-4338, email is sue@bluestarfarmny.com.
